Laptop or desktop? Choosing between them can be a difficult decision.

In order to make your decision simple, here are some advantages and disadvantages to consider.

Advantages of laptops:

Portability:

Easy for wireless internet:

Wireless internet (dongle) is more easily available for laptop computers than desktops.

Occupies less desk space:

Laptop computers occupy less desk space, so you can arrange various useful things, such as printers, fax machines, document holders etc on the desk when working.

Easy to work anywhere:

If your job requires traveling and access to a full-scale computer at any given time throughout the day, a laptop is the best solution.

Efficient power consumption:

The components used in both laptops and desktops are similar in terms of the function they execute, but the components in the laptop are miniaturized and prepared to support effective power consumption. [Laptop Ergonomics]

Effective design:

Laptops have in-built Input devices as well as touchpads. You can also connect an external mouse.

Apart from mobility and compatibility, laptops also have a set of disadvantages.

Disadvantages of laptops:

Standardization issues: When considering the standardization issues, a large amount of inconsistency is observed. There are worldwide standards for form factors, add-in PC cards and peripherals used in desktop computers.

However, there are no such principles for laptop internals. Still, there are a lot of issues with the standardizations of motherboard layouts, electric voltage, optical drive, keyboard, internal adaptors, LCD cable and floppy drive.

Compatibility issues: You cannot use one manufacturer’s components in a laptop that is a product of another manufacturer.

Upgradation issues: Upgrading the laptop is limited for economic and technical reasons. Each manufacturer gives a proprietary design for a laptop computer. Due to this, it is very difficult for upgrading them and it is also more costly.

Performance issues: In laptop, RAM is shared between graphic adapter and program memory. Due to this, the performance of the laptop is very much affected.

Health issues: Temperature that is produced from the laptop affects fertility in men. You can also be affected by RSI with the usage of a laptop keyboard.
